SAGBRAIN CORPORATION (“we” or “the Company”) maintains a database of bioscience research facilities and laboratories, and of the researchers working in them, compiled from information published on the internet. We call it the Laboratory Database, or LDB.
Personal information about researchers held in the LDB is collected and handled in accordance with the policy set out below.
■How the personal information in the LDB is collected
The researcher information in the LDB is taken from what universities, research institutions and academic bodies publish on the internet, and compiled into a database. Researcher information that has not been published is not held in the LDB.
■Information we collect
The researcher information we take from published sources is as follows.
Name; name in katakana; position held in the affiliated organisation; field of research; amount of competitive research funding allocated.
■What we use the collected information for
We use the information we collect for the following purposes.
- Providing, obtaining and considering information about research products and services
- Providing, obtaining and considering academic information relating to research
- Putting information on research institutions, laboratories and researchers into digital form
- Analysing and surveying the circumstances and needs of research institutions, laboratories and researchers
- Searching and displaying information on research institutions, laboratories and researchers on LDB, the web service we operate and administer
- Other work incidental to the above
■How we provide information to third parties
We provide the researcher information we have collected to parties such as manufacturers and distributors of research products and wholesalers of research products. Appropriate measures are taken to prevent leakage, and provision is made either by display within a web system we administer or by sending an encrypted data file.
■How recipients may handle the LDB data
When we provide the data described above to a third party such as a manufacturer, distributor or wholesaler of research products, our contract with that recipient limits the purposes for which it may be used to the following.
- Providing, obtaining and considering information about research products and services
- Providing, obtaining and considering academic information relating to research
- Putting information on research institutions, laboratories and researchers into digital form
- Analysing and surveying the circumstances and needs of research institutions, laboratories and researchers
- Other work incidental to the above
■How the personal data is kept up to date
We check and reconcile the personal information held in the LDB against published sources at least once a year, and update it so that it reflects the current position.
■Opt-out contact point
Where the person concerned asks us to, we stop providing their personal information held in the LDB to third parties. Please contact us using the details below.
